What is Daiquiri?

Daiquiri is a classic cocktail made with white rum, with approximately 23% ABV. Originating from Cuba, this cocktail achieves perfect balance with just three simple ingredients: rum, lime juice, and sugar. Recognized as an IBA official cocktail, its refreshing and clean taste makes it beloved by both cocktail beginners and enthusiasts alike.

Daiquiri ABV

Daiquiri has an ABV of approximately 23%, placing it in the medium strength category. The 40% white rum is diluted by lime juice and syrup, making it smooth and easy to drink. It's similar in strength to a Margarita (22%), stronger than a Mojito (12%), but lighter than a Martini (30%).

Daiquiri Ingredients

White rum
Lime juice
Sugar

Daiquiri Recipe

  1. Add 60ml white rum, 20ml lime juice, and 2 tsp sugar to a shaker.
  2. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a chilled coupe glass.
  4. Garnish with a lime slice if desired.

Using freshly squeezed lime juice enhances the crispness of your Daiquiri.

Daiquiri Taste

The Daiquiri opens with the bright acidity of lime awakening your palate, followed by the smooth sweetness and subtle sugarcane notes of white rum. The simple syrup adds just enough sweetness to balance the tartness, finishing clean and dry.

Perfect for those who love sweet and sour flavors or want a refreshing cocktail on a hot summer day. If you enjoy citrus-based cocktails like the Sidecar or Margarita, you'll certainly appreciate the Daiquiri.

Daiquiri History

The Daiquiri was born in 1898 near Daiquiri beach in Cuba. American mining engineer Jennings Cox created it to entertain colleagues using locally available rum, lime, and sugar. The cocktail was named after the nearby beach.

The drink gained worldwide fame when American author Ernest Hemingway frequently enjoyed it at La Floridita bar in Havana, Cuba. Hemingway preferred his own version made with double rum and no sugar, which became known as the "Hemingway Daiquiri" or "Papa Doble."
