The Black Russian is a classic cocktail created in the 1940s by a hotel bartender in Brussels, Belgium, known for its dark color and strong vodka base.
It combines the intense alcohol punch of vodka with the bittersweet richness of coffee liqueur, creating a clean yet heavy drink.
With an ABV of around 27–30%, it’s a relatively strong cocktail, but it’s quick and easy to make by simply building over ice in an Old Fashioned glass.
Its sweet coffee aroma makes it an excellent recommendation as a post-dinner dessert cocktail.
- 1. Fill an Old Fashioned glass with ice.
- 2. Pour in 50ml vodka and 20ml coffee liqueur in order.
- 3. Stir gently to finish.
Tip For a twist, add a layer of cream to transform it into a White Russian.
