What is B&B?

B&B is a classic cocktail made by building Bénédictine and cognac in a 1:1 ratio, with an ABV of approximately 36%.

The name stands for "Bénédictine and Brandy," delivering deep, complex flavors with just two ingredients.

The perfect harmony of Bénédictine's herbal notes and cognac's fruit flavors makes it an elegant cocktail especially beloved as an after-dinner drink.

B&B ABV

B&B has an ABV of approximately 36%, placing it in the very high range for cocktails.

Bénédictine (40%) at 30ml and cognac (40%) at 30ml mixed 1:1 creates roughly 36%.

Similar to Old Fashioned (36%) and Catharsis (35%), slightly stronger than Sazerac (35%). Bénédictine's sweetness smoothly wraps around the high ABV.

B&B Recipe

  1. Place a large ice cube in a rocks glass. (Or serve neat without ice)
  2. Add 30ml Bénédictine.
  3. Add 30ml cognac.
  4. Stir gently to combine.
  5. Garnish with an orange peel or lemon twist and serve.

Use VS or VSOP grade cognac for best results. Enjoying it neat at room temperature brings out richer herbal aromas.

B&B Taste

B&B opens with Bénédictine's complex herbs, honey, and spice notes spreading richly.

Cognac's grape fruit flavors and oak-aged vanilla and caramel notes then emerge warmly. The harmony of both spirits creates a deep, elegant finish that lingers.

Excellent as an after-dinner digestif, recommended for those who prefer complex, warming flavors.

B&B History

B&B is believed to have been born in 1930s America. One story attributes its creation to New York's famous "21 Club."

Bénédictine itself is an herbal liqueur created by Benedictine monks at the Fécamp Abbey in Normandy, France in 1510. Made with 27 herbs and spices, the exact recipe remains secret to this day.

Due to B&B's popularity, the Bénédictine company released a premixed "B&B" product. Pre-blended Bénédictine and cognac for convenient enjoyment.
