What is Nutty Irishman (Hot)?
The Nutty Irishman pairs the smooth whiskey-cream notes of Baileys with the toasty hazelnut sweetness of Frangelico, served warm over hot coffee with a floating cream layer. A cold version exists but this hot variant is the classic.
Nutty Irishman (Hot) ABV
A gentle 7% ABV. The hot coffee and cream dilute the spirits, making the alcohol almost imperceptible — easy to enjoy as a dessert cocktail.
Nutty Irishman (Hot) Ingredients
- 30ml - Baileys
- 30ml - Frangelico
- 90ml - Coffee
- 30ml - Heavy cream
Nutty Irishman (Hot) Recipe
- Pour 30ml of Baileys into a warmed Irish coffee glass.
- Add 30ml of Frangelico.
- Slowly pour 90ml of hot brewed coffee and stir gently.
- Slowly pour lightly whipped cream over the back of a spoon to float on top. Optionally, sprinkle crushed hazelnuts on top.
Use freshly brewed coffee for the best aroma. A strong espresso topped with hot water works just as well.
Nutty Irishman (Hot) Taste
Smooth Baileys whiskey-cream, toasted Frangelico hazelnut, bittersweet coffee, and rich cream come together in one cup. Tastes like a dessert cafe in liquid form, with a warm and silky finish.
Nutty Irishman (Hot) History
A descendant of Irish Coffee, the Nutty Irishman gained traction in American pub culture during the 1970s-80s, riding the popularity wave of Baileys (launched 1974) and Frangelico to become a classic dessert cocktail.
