What is Mudslide?
The Mudslide is a creamy, indulgent frozen cocktail that originated in the 1970s at the Wreck of Ten Sails bar in the Cayman Islands. Made by blending vodka, Kahlua coffee liqueur, and Baileys Irish Cream with cream and ice, it earned its name from its rich, brown color that resembles a real mudslide. Think of it as the alcoholic version of a cafe mocha frappe.
Mudslide ABV
The Mudslide has a moderate ABV of around 14-15% — middle of the road for cocktails. The cream and ice make it smooth and easy to drink, but don't let that fool you. It carries real alcohol content, so treat it like dessert and sip slowly.
Mudslide Ingredients
- 30ml - Vodka
- 30ml - Coffee Liqueur
- 30ml - Baileys
- 30ml - Heavy cream
Mudslide Recipe
- Add 30ml vodka, 30ml Kahlua, 30ml Baileys, and 30ml fresh cream to a blender.
- Add about 1 cup of ice and blend for 30 seconds until smooth and slushy.
- Pour into a chilled hurricane glass.
- (Optional) Drizzle chocolate syrup inside the glass before pouring, and top with whipped cream and cocoa powder for a cafe-dessert finish.
For a lighter version, skip the vodka and add more milk. For a richer take, swap the fresh cream for vanilla ice cream.
Mudslide Taste
Sweet, creamy, and deeply coffee-flavored. The whiskey notes from Baileys and the bittersweet coffee of Kahlua come together with rich cream to create a flavor reminiscent of mocha ice cream. The finish is smooth and lingering.
Mudslide History
